The Rockwall County Learning Gardens will hold its inaugural planting Wednesday, Oct. 28, beginning a new stage for the educational project between the county courthouse and library.
The ceremony starts at 10 a.m. at 1111 E. Yellowjacket Lane. The Rockwall County Extension Master Gardener Association is organizing the event with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, according to an announcement published by Blue Ribbon News.
Organizers will postpone the gathering if severe weather occurs.
County officials, community leaders and Master Gardeners are expected to participate in planting the site, where garden paths have already been established.
Todd Williams, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension agent for Rockwall County, said the project will give residents opportunities to learn through practical gardening experiences. He described the gardens as “a lasting community resource.”
The completed site is intended to demonstrate research-based approaches to horticulture and landscaping. Organizers plan a formal dedication in 2027, after the first plantings have had time to develop and bloom.
Residents seeking gardening advice can also meet with the association’s Ask a Master Gardener team. Volunteers are available Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon at the AgriLife Extension Office, 915 E. Whitmore Drive, Suite B.
The team also holds sessions at the Rockwall County Library from 10 a.m. to noon on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, according to the Master Gardeners’ website.
