Rockwall County drivers face a full week of daytime and overnight lane closures along the I-30 corridor starting Monday, Aug. 17, as crews shift into daytime flagging operations on FM 548, FM 35 and multiple frontage roads while overnight pavement work continues through Saturday, Aug. 22.

An overnight closure of Exit 69 on Friday, Aug. 14, has already wrapped up. Crews replaced damaged concrete on I-30 eastbound between SH 205 and John King Boulevard from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. that night, according to a Rockwall County civic alert posted Aug. 14.

Overnight pavement work underway

Since Sunday, Aug. 16, the left lanes of both eastbound and westbound I-30 between TL Townsend and FM 3549 have been closing nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for removal and replacement of continuously reinforced concrete pavement. That work continues each night through Aug. 22.

Daytime work hits FM 548, FM 35 and frontage roads

Beginning Monday, Aug. 17, daytime flagging operations run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on two key routes:

  • FM 548 northbound and southbound for embankment and removal work
  • FM 35 northbound and southbound for bridge activities

During the same hours, the I-30 westbound frontage road's right lane between John King Boulevard and SH 205 will close for safety-barrier installation. Flagging operations will also slow traffic on both the eastbound and westbound frontage roads between FM 551 and FM 2642 as crews install concrete safety barriers and place rip rap for erosion control.

All daytime work is scheduled Monday, Aug. 17, through Saturday, Aug. 22.

Emergency access preserved

Contractor crews are coordinating with EMS, fire and police to maintain emergency access through every closure, the county alert states.

The closures are part of TxDOT's $348 million I-30 corridor expansion, which will widen the highway and add continuous frontage roads from SH 205 to the Hunt County line. The project, part of the Texas Clear Lanes congestion-relief initiative, is expected to wrap up by early 2028.

Jim Barto, Rockwall County public information officer, has been the point of contact for weekly closure updates submitted to local media throughout the summer. As we reported Aug. 4, the eastbound off-ramp at SH 205 closed earlier this month and a temporary exit opened.
