Rockwall drivers who exit eastbound I-30 at State Highway 205 will lose their familiar off-ramp at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, and must use a new temporary exit about one mile to the west starting at 5 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8.

The new ramp, designated Exit 67C, will serve eastbound I-30 traffic headed to SH 205 while crews build a permanent ramp at the same spot. No timeline has been announced for when that permanent ramp will be finished.

The Texas Department of Transportation said in an announcement published Aug. 4 that drivers should watch for new exit signage and use caution as traffic patterns adjust. Rockwall County confirmed the same schedule. Both agencies noted the closure is weather-dependent.

This is not a temporary overnight lane closure. The old ramp closes for good, and Exit 67C becomes the only eastbound route off I-30 to SH 205 until the permanent replacement is complete.

Part of the $348 million I-30 expansion

The ramp shift is one piece of TxDOT's $348 million I-30 corridor expansion project, which is widening the interstate and adding continuous frontage roads from SH 205 east to the Hunt County line. The overall project is expected to wrap up by early 2028.

That work falls under TxDOT's Texas Clear Lanes initiative, a statewide program launched in 2015 to relieve congestion on non-tolled roads in five major metro areas, including Dallas-Fort Worth. According to TxDOT, the state has dedicated more than $35 billion toward nearly $80 billion worth of projects on Texas' 100 Most Congested Roadways list since the program began.

Drivers who typically exit at SH 205 during their morning or evening commute should plan for the shift beginning Aug. 8 and look for Exit 67C signage approximately one mile before their old exit.
