Soroptimist International of Rockwall's biggest annual fundraiser will send proceeds to three community programs this year, adding a career-mentoring initiative for girls to the lineup for the first time.
The 7th Annual Black & White Casino Night, themed "Texas Glam," takes place Saturday, Sept. 19, from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Boyd Farm in Lavon. Tickets cost $125 each, according to the chapter's Facebook page, and are available at muradbid.com/srcasinonight/tix.
Event chair Danna Taylor said in a July 28 Rockwall Times announcement that all proceeds go directly to the chapter's service work. Blue Ribbon News reported that this year's proceeds will benefit three programs: the Pink Bag Project, which provides care packages of everyday essentials to women in need; STARS (Soroptimist Toasting Area Retired Seniors), which delivers meals, birthday celebrations, and fellowship to local seniors; and Dream It, Be It, a mentoring and career-support program for girls in high school.
Dream It, Be It is an international Soroptimist initiative. According to the organization's program page, 23,870 girls participated in a recent year, with 84 percent reporting new tools to overcome obstacles and 89 percent saying they felt more confident about their futures.
The Rockwall chapter's earlier announcements named only the Pink Bag Project and STARS as beneficiaries. Dream It, Be It is the newly confirmed third program.
What to expect on the night
The dress code calls for black and white with "Lone Star flair" — cowboy boots, rhinestones, statement jewelry. Guests receive a complimentary glass of prosecco on arrival, a buffet dinner catered by Eddie Deen Catering, and entertainment from DJ Josh.
Casino games include Texas Hold'em, Blackjack, Craps, and Roulette. Each ticket comes with casino chips and one prize ticket for a chance at 20 themed prize baskets valued at $75 or more. Chips can be exchanged for additional prize tickets throughout the evening. Live and silent auctions round out the night, featuring donations from local businesses.
