A clay shoot and first-ever community after party Thursday, Oct. 1, will raise money for Selah Creek Maternity Home, a Rockwall-area nonprofit that houses mothers facing unplanned or unsupported pregnancies.
The 3rd Annual Selah Creek Classic takes place at Texas Gun Ranch in Terrell. This year marks the first time non-shooters can join the evening festivities, with after-party tickets priced at $50 per person, according to Blue Ribbon News.
Four-person teams hit the clay course at 2 p.m., with registration opening at 12:30 p.m. Gardner Construction and Group 1 Ford of Rockwall are presenting sponsors.
After-party check-in begins at 5 p.m. Dinner, catered by Soulman's Bar-B-Que, is served at 5:30 p.m. The evening also includes live music, interactive games, a whiskey tasting, cigars and high-end raffles.
All proceeds support Selah Creek's mission. The event registration page describes the fundraiser as directly funding safe housing, education and support for mothers and their babies.
Founded in 2015, Selah Creek gives each mother her own furnished bedroom and helps with applications for food stamps, WIC and Medicaid, according to a Redeemer Church profile of the organization. Programming includes counseling, financial literacy training, parenting classes and employment support. Mothers can stay up to one year after their baby is born.
One former resident, identified only as Mama J in the Redeemer Church profile, described what the program meant to her: "If I hadn't found Selah Creek, I'd probably be in jail, or in rehab, or not alive … Because of this place, my eyes have opened up to a lot of things. They've made me feel like I'm worth something."
The nonprofit operates on a budget between $250,000 and $499,999 and serves several North Texas counties, including Rockwall, according to North Texas Giving Day records.
