A man accused of stabbing a woman at a Royse City apartment complex on Thursday, July 23 has been arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Herald-Banner.
Eric Joe Johnson, 56, was taken into custody after the Royse City Police Department issued an arrest warrant in connection with the stabbing at the Regal Apartments in the 300 block of North Erby Campbell Road. Rockwall County Crime Stoppers had offered a reward for information leading to his arrest. The Herald-Banner did not publish details about when or where Johnson was apprehended, and bond information was not immediately available.
According to a Royse City Police Department press release published by Blue Ribbon News, officers responded to the apartment complex at approximately 9:30 p.m. on July 23 after receiving a report of a stabbing. When they arrived, they found a 50-year-old woman outside her apartment, conscious and bleeding from a knife wound to her back.
Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital. She was in stable condition.
The victim told officers she had been in a dating relationship with Johnson, according to the press release. Johnson is a registered sex offender who most recently registered with the Dallas Police Department on June 29 as a transient living behind a pawn shop.
Prior to his arrest, the Royse City Police Department had warned the public that Johnson was considered violent and dangerous and directed anyone who encountered him to call 911 immediately rather than approach him. The department described Johnson as a Black male, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds, with short black dreadlocks. He was known to drive a gold 2006 Cadillac sedan with Texas license plate XLP9366.
