Rockwall opens District 10-6A play Friday, Sept. 18, against a Mesquite Horn team that has lost all three of its games by double digits.
The Yellowjackets (2-1) host the Jaguars (0-3) at Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium. The matchup pits one of the district's most productive offenses against a defense that has allowed at least 45 points in every outing. Horn has given up 158 points through three games, falling to Plano East 55-21, Keller Central 45-18 and Wylie 58-26, according to the Rockwall County Herald-Banner.
The Jaguars scored 65 points in those losses.
Still, Horn has playmakers worth watching. Senior quarterback and safety Kai Furtch leads the offense, averaging 66.7 rushing yards per game and accounting for three touchdowns. Senior receiver Santana Carrizosa has been his top target, averaging 78 receiving yards per game.
On defense, junior middle linebacker Jaettan Stewart paces the Jaguars with seven tackles per game. Sophomore safety Jay'Den Wallace has recorded the team's only interception.
Rockwall enters the district opener after back-to-back wins over Dallas Jesuit (51 points) and Melissa (46 points) following a season-opening loss to Prosper. The Yellowjackets are ranked No. 19 in the VYPE DFW Top 20 and already halfway to their 2025 win total of four.
Quarterback Collins Jones has been the engine. In the Week 3 win over Melissa, Jones completed 17 of 27 passes for 342 yards and three touchdowns, according to the Herald-Banner's game recap. He added 75 rushing yards and two more scores for 417 total yards.
Gederius Epps caught three passes for 99 yards, including a 49-yard touchdown. Running back Kaydon Castro carried 24 times for 84 yards.
The Jackets piled up 550 total yards against Melissa. They have allowed 56, 28 and 41 points across three games, and defensive consistency remains the question heading into district play.
Head coach Trey Brooks set the tone for the season at the Yellowjackets' opening practice on Aug. 11. "There's nothing better than getting back here and back out on the field with these guys," Brooks said at the time.
Horn is 0-3 for the first time since 2021, according to VYPE DFW. The last time the Jaguars opened 0-4, they reached the regional semifinals and finished 5-8.
After Friday's opener, Rockwall continues district play while Horn hosts Tyler Legacy on Sept. 25.
