Rockwall community invited to celebrate the life of CASA volunteer Rita Flinchum

Rockwall residents are invited to a public celebration of life for Rita Flinchum, a volunteer with Lone Star CASA and civic leader in the Rockwall County Democratic Party.

The gathering is set for Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. at The Center at Rockwall City Place, 108 E. Washington St. The event is open to everyone, according to an announcement published by Blue Ribbon News.

Flinchum supported children and families through Lone Star CASA's birthday and Christmas projects. She also advocated for older adults, welcomed newcomers to the area and offered friendship and encouragement across the community.

In the Rockwall County Democratic Party, Flinchum served as a precinct chair, election worker, block walker and campaign volunteer. The announcement described her as someone who encouraged candidates, supported their families and helped neighbors get involved in local civic life.

Organizers said Flinchum left her mark through her work with children, her support for neighbors and the relationships she formed across Rockwall County. Members of her CASA family, residents of her precinct and friends throughout the county are all welcome to gather and share memories.

Those wishing to honor Flinchum's memory are asked to make donations to Lone Star CASA or the Rockwall County Democratic Party in lieu of flowers.

Lone Star CASA, which provides court-appointed advocates for abused and neglected children in Rockwall and Kaufman counties, had served 256 children so far in 2026 as of July. Of those, 85 children reached safe, permanent homes through reunification, adoption, guardianship or placement with relatives, according to the Rockwall Times.

Kim Campbell, board president of Lone Star CASA, said in July at the annual Cars for CASA fundraiser that the organization's funding "will allow Lone Star CASA to provide advocacy for 30 children for an entire year."

Donations to Lone Star CASA can be made through the organization's website.
