The Rockwall-Heath Hawks hit their first formal preseason milestone Thursday when the program held media day under first-year head coach Casey Dick, just two days after fall camp opened and 22 days before the season opener at Denton Guyer.
Rockwall ISD Sports Marketing posted photos from the Aug. 6 session showing Hawks players in uniform, the first public images of the team since the May 18 spring game.
The event marks another step in the transition from retired Hall of Honor coach Rodney Webb to Dick, the Allen High School alumnus and Texas native who spent seven years leading the Fayetteville (Ark.) Bulldogs to a 55-28 record and an Arkansas state championship in 2023, according to High School Football America. The Rockwall ISD Board of Trustees approved Dick's hiring as athletic coordinator and head football coach on March 5.
As we reported Aug. 4, the Hawks opened fall practice that day with Dick installing his system for the first time in a live setting. Media day gave players and coaches a brief pause from the practice field for team photos and promotional content before the grind resumes.
Dick appeared on the Rockwall County Gameday show on Wednesday, Aug. 5, as part of a District 10-6A football preview that also featured Rockwall, Heritage Christian Academy and Royse City.
The schedule doesn't ease up.
What's ahead
The Hawks open the season at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at Denton Guyer, ranked No. 11 in Texas by On3. Rockwall-Heath enters the year ranked No. 45 in the state and No. 40 nationally.
After Guyer, the Hawks host Highland Park on Sept. 4 and Byron Nelson on Sept. 11 before traveling to Tyler Legacy on Sept. 18. District 10-6A play begins Sept. 25 at home against Forney.
Webb left the program on solid footing. The Hawks reached the area round of the Class 6A playoffs in 2025, beating Wylie East 52-10 in the bi-district round before falling to Duncanville 43-6. A 4-6 injury-plagued 2024 season was the lone down year in Webb's final three campaigns.
Dick's dual role as athletic coordinator gives him oversight of the entire Rockwall-Heath athletic department, not just football. The first real test comes Aug. 28 at Guyer.
