The Rockwall County Detention Center booked 368 people in July 2026, a 7% jump from June driven almost entirely by misdemeanor arrests, according to statistics the county published Monday, Aug. 3.

Misdemeanor charges accounted for 261 of the bookings, up from 215 in June. Felony bookings moved in the opposite direction, dropping from 117 to 92.

The facility's average daily population held at 257 inmates, up 11 from June's 246. That figure has climbed steadily since February, when the jail averaged 220 inmates per day with 309 total bookings.

Who's coming in

Men made up the bulk of July's bookings: 289 males versus 79 females. The jail released 359 people during the same period, nine fewer than it took in, which accounts for the slight population increase.

Shorter stays

Average confinement length dropped sharply, from 70 days in June to 51 days in July. The shift coincides with the rise in misdemeanor bookings and the decline in felony cases.
