Artists across five states have until Tuesday, Sept. 15 to enter the Rockwall Art League's 26th annual Juried Fine Art Show and Sale, competing for up to $6,600 in cash prizes including a $1,000 Best in Show award.

The entry deadline is Sept. 15.

The competition is open to artists 18 and older in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and New Mexico, according to the Rockwall County Herald-Banner. Participants may submit up to two original works across eight categories: oil, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, mosaic, drawing, photography and sculpture. Entries are accepted online through the Rockwall Art League.

Entry fees are $45 for nonmembers and $35 for Rockwall Art League members. Members should check their email for a promotional coupon code before submitting.

Selected artwork will be displayed Friday, Oct. 16 through Sunday, Oct. 18 at The Center at Rockwall City Place, where artists can also sell their work to the public. Last year's 25th annual show was held at Cavender Nissan-Rockwall; the move to Rockwall City Place marks a new venue for the league's signature event.

SHINE inclusive art classes continue

The Art League also runs SHINE, a free monthly program for adults 18 and older with special needs and their caregivers at Rockwall County Library. Now in its third year, the program meets on the third Thursday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the library's large meeting room, according to a Herald-Banner feature on the program.

Donna Schookcraft, a Rockwall Art League volunteer who leads many of the lessons, told the Herald-Banner in July: "Experiencing the fun, art and the smiles makes any work worthwhile. I love it."

Projects range from collages and holiday crafts to painting birdhouses and making garden flags. The next session is Thursday, Aug. 20. Caregivers must attend, and registration is required by calling (972) 204-7740. First-time attendees should contact youth services librarian Tenille Miller at (972) 205-7741 for an orientation.
