Crews will shut down all eastbound I-30 main lanes between FM 2642 and FM 1565 on two overnight windows the week of Sept. 8 to set beams for a new County Road 2511 bridge.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced the closures on Tuesday, Sept. 1. Eastbound lanes will close from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, into Wednesday, Sept. 9, according to the Royse City Herald-Banner. A second closure is planned overnight Thursday, Sept. 10, into Friday, Sept. 11, also expected to run 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. based on the same schedule.
The inside lane of westbound I-30 will also close during both windows. The FM 2642 intersection at the I-30 frontage roads will be shut to all traffic.
Detour routes
Eastbound drivers will exit at Exit 79 and follow the I-30 frontage road, re-entering the main lanes near FM 1565.
Motorists coming from State Highway 66 on FM 2642 can take the westbound I-30 frontage road to FM 35 and head back east to reach Buc-ee's and the high school. Drivers headed to Verandah Boulevard should continue to Exit 85 and use the FM 36 underpass to loop back to FM 2642.
Part of $348 million expansion
The beam-setting work falls under the $348 million I-30 corridor expansion, which will widen the interstate and add continuous frontage roads from SH 205 to the Hunt County line, according to the Rockwall Times. That project is expected to wrap up in early 2028.
Separate nightly closures for bridge work at the FM 548 intersection in Royse City are also ongoing as part of the same expansion. Those closures follow the same 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. pattern.
TxDOT cautioned that all closures could be delayed or altered by weather, mechanical problems or material supply issues. Drivers can check DriveTexas.org for real-time lane closure updates. TxDOT also offers text alerts for major scheduled closures through its GovDelivery signup page.
