The Rockwall-Heath Hawks fishing team topped 27 other schools to win the Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA) Central Division championship at Lake Whitney on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Three Heath boats finished in the top 10 out of 183 competing at the tournament, earning the Hawks the Top School Championship trophy. The field drew from 28 schools across the Central Division, one of nine THSBA divisions statewide.
Joe Rasmussen and Evan Clark led the way for Heath, finishing sixth overall. Brayden Lucas and Preston Yetts placed eighth. Cash Michigan and Wyatt Sheperd rounded out the top 10.
The depth told the story. No individual Heath boat won a first-place finish, but the program stacked three tandems high enough in a 183-boat field to claim the school title.
The tournament was originally scheduled for Cedar Creek Lake before the THSBA moved it to Lake Whitney, according to a Sept. 13 notice from the organization on Instagram. No reason for the venue change was given.
Rockwall ISD Sports Marketing confirmed the Hawks finished first overall against the 28-school field and that three boats placed in the top 10. The Rockwall County Herald-Banner first reported the individual boat placements.
The THSBA describes itself as an organization that provides high school students a venue for organized tournament competition while maintaining academic standards. The Central Division falls under the association's East Area alongside the East and Northeast divisions.
The THSBA season continues this fall, though the Hawks' next Central Division tournament date has not been announced. Registration for the 2026-2027 season is open through the THSBA app and website.
