A scholarship golf tournament that has funneled approximately $340,000 to Rockwall and Heath graduates headed to Texas Tech University returns to Buffalo Creek Golf Club on Sept. 28.
Registration is open.
The Tommy Hooper Texas Tech Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament, organized by the Rockwall Chapter of the Texas Tech Alumni Association, runs from noon to 7 p.m. at the Heath course. All proceeds fund scholarships for graduating seniors from Rockwall High School (RHS) and Rockwall-Heath High School (RHHS) who have been accepted at Texas Tech, according to Blue Ribbon News.
The tournament has awarded those scholarships since 2005, building a pipeline between Rockwall ISD and the Lubbock campus that has helped dozens of local students.
Last year, the Rockwall Chapter awarded $20,000 to four Rockwall ISD graduates: Marty Brown, William Castillo, Dylan Tolliver and Kacie Whitten. As of August 2025, the chapter had given scholarships to 84 RHS and RHHS graduates since the tournament began.
The Sept. 28 event uses a Florida scramble format, a team-based style where all players hit from the best shot each round. Entry fees cover lunch, dinner, a golf cart and range balls. A silent auction featuring sports memorabilia rounds out the day. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for local businesses and supporters.
Event Chairman Margie Hooper is the contact for questions and registration details. She can be reached by email. Registration information is also available through the Texas Tech Alumni website.
Buffalo Creek Golf Club is at 624 Country Club Drive, Heath, TX 75032.
