HOA board members and property managers in Rockwall can learn how to trim landscape water bills at a free workshop next month at the Rockwall County Library.

HOA Connect and the North Texas Municipal Water District will host the HOA Landscape Innovations Forum from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 10 at the library, 1215 E. Yellowjacket Lane. Registration is required, and space is limited.

The forum covers outdoor water efficiency, seasonal irrigation scheduling, smart controllers, flow meters, high-efficiency nozzles, converting seasonal color beds to native and adaptive plants, and evaluating soil health. Presenters will also address how to work effectively with landscape and irrigation contractors, according to the Rockwall County civic alert announcing the event.

The workshop is open to current and former HOA board members, licensed property management professionals, licensed landscape and irrigation contractors, and municipal employees. Breakfast will be provided.

The stakes are real for Rockwall neighborhoods. Landscape watering accounts for 30 percent of home water use, yet lawns, trees and plants need only about one inch of water per week, Rockwall Parks and Recreation Director Travis Sales wrote in the city's April 2026 newsletter. "Overwatering is the leading cause of lawn, shrub, and tree decline!" Sales wrote in that same column.

A single broken sprinkler head or leak can waste up to 25,000 gallons in six months if left unrepaired, Sales noted in the city's July 2026 newsletter.

The Rockwall session is one of four regional forums. Earlier dates are scheduled in Dallas on Sept. 12, McKinney on Sept. 22 and Allen on Sept. 29.

NTMWD serves roughly 2.3 million wholesale customers across a service area about twice the size of Rhode Island, and regional water demand is projected to double by 2070, according to an October 2025 Rockwall City Council presentation by NTMWD board member Chip Imrie.
