Rockwall County residents who care for aging or disabled family members can get a full day of free support, education and meals at the 14th annual Rockwall Cares Caregiver Conference on Thursday, Sept. 17.

Meals on Wheels Senior Services of Rockwall County and Rest Haven Funeral Home & Memorial Park are co-hosting the event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rest Haven, 2500 State Hwy 66 East in Rockwall. Admission, breakfast and lunch are all free.

The conference is open to family caregivers, professionals and community members, according to Blue Ribbon News, which first reported the event.

What's offered

The day includes expert speakers on aging and caregiving topics, tables staffed by local support organizations, a flu shot clinic and raffle prizes. Specific speaker names and session topics have not yet been announced.

The North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging, which serves adults 60 and older and their family caregivers across 14 counties including Rockwall, is a co-information provider for the event. The agency also administers a Caregiver Respite program that issues vouchers worth up to $800 so family caregivers can arrange temporary relief care. Residents can reach the agency at 800-272-3921.

Serving a growing county

Meals on Wheels Senior Services has operated in Rockwall County since 1978. In 2024, the organization served more than 95,000 meals to nearly 600 seniors and disabled individuals countywide, according to a City Lifestyle profile of the nonprofit.

Board chair Dennis Lewis has noted on the organization's website that demand for senior services continues to rise and the nonprofit must prepare to meet it. The conference has run every September since its founding; last year's 13th annual edition drew attendees to the same Rest Haven venue on Sept. 18, 2025.
