A three-story self-storage facility with 911 units opened at 104 Industrial Drive in Rockwall on July 28, marking the brand's first location in Rockwall County.
Five Star Storage held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in partnership with the Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce, according to the Rockwall Times. The facility is operated by Storage Asset Management, a York, Pennsylvania-based company that manages more than 568 storage facilities across 36 states.
Aaron Knight, district manager for Storage Asset Management, said the company views its Chamber membership as more than a networking tool. "We support the chamber because it helps us drive business, but it also helps us get the word out that we're willing to help other businesses as well," Knight said at the ceremony.
The facility offers climate-controlled inside units, ground-level units, and drive-up access. No physical keys required. All units are unlocked via smartphone.
A "Neighborhood Friends" bulletin board in the lobby invites local entrepreneurs to post business cards so customers can find referrals for movers, property managers, and other services.
Patriot PAWS partnership
For its grand opening, Five Star chose Patriot PAWS Service Dogs as its charitable beneficiary. The Rockwall-based nonprofit, which trains and provides service dogs to disabled veterans at no cost, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
Lauren Vaughn, Patriot PAWS' director of development, attended the ribbon-cutting and spoke about the organization's mission of ensuring disabled American veterans receive service dogs free of charge. Each dog costs more than $45,000 to train over 18 to 24 months, according to the nonprofit's website. Patriot PAWS was founded in 2006 by Lori Stevens after she met a group of veterans at the Dallas VA Hospital.
Knight said the partnership combined two company priorities: supporting military members and first responders, and caring for animals.
