Fate police arrested a juvenile at Ursula Rakow Middle School on Monday, Sept. 21, before the school day began, after investigating an alleged terroristic threat against students and staff.
The Fate Police Department said officers worked with Rockwall ISD security staff and the department's school resource officer to identify and detain the student. The juvenile was taken into custody. Police have not identified the student or described the nature of the alleged threat.
Rakow Middle School is part of Rockwall ISD and serves students from Fate, Rockwall and Heath.
No firearm was recovered during the arrest, and no student brought a firearm onto campus, the department said. No additional threats were made, and no other students were involved.
An extra Fate Police officer was stationed on campus Monday to assist with the investigation and provide an enhanced presence during dismissal.
The case will be submitted to Rockwall County Juvenile Services for filing with the Rockwall County District Attorney's Office. The investigation remained active as of Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Some initial reports, including coverage first reported by Fox 4 and the Rockwall County Herald-Banner, attributed the arrest to the Rockwall Police Department. The Fate Police Department's official statement identifies Fate officers and its school resource officer as making the arrest alongside Rockwall ISD security staff.
Rakow Middle School Principal Jacob Payne sent a message to parents Monday urging them to talk with their children about the consequences of threats. "Parents, please help us remind students that making a threat, even as an offhand remark or on social media, may violate the Student Code of Conduct and could result in disciplinary or legal consequences. Rockwall ISD and our law enforcement partners are serious about these types of behaviors," Payne said, according to Fox 4.
The Fate Police Department noted that rumors circulated among students on campus Monday but said there were no known additional threats or dangers to the campus. Residents with information about the case can contact the Fate Police Department.
