Four Rockwall County athletes came home from the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games with medals and top finishes, and on Wednesday, July 29, the Commissioners Court paused its regular agenda to honor them.

Swimmer Rachel Shupp brought back three silver medals. Fellow swimmer Cole Randolph earned a bronze medal and two sixth-place finishes. On the soccer field, Scott Wendt and Zach Miller helped Team Texas' 7-on-7 Unified Soccer squad to a fourth-place national finish, with Wendt serving as goalkeeper.

All four competed as part of Team Texas at the games in Minneapolis, held June 20–26, where nearly 3,000 athletes from all 50 states faced off across 16 sports, according to ESPN.

The Commissioners Court recognition marks the second public celebration for the group. In early July, coaches, teammates, and supporters greeted the athletes at a community welcome-home event organized by the local Special Olympics program. "Our athletes represented Rockwall County with pride and showed the nation what Team Texas is all about," organizers told Blue Ribbon News on July 7, when the athletes first returned.

The four were selected to Team Texas in the summer of 2025 after a competitive qualification process and spent months training before the June games, according to Blue Ribbon News' May preview.

The county's announcement called their results "outstanding accomplishments" and offered congratulations on behalf of the court.

All four train locally. Rockwall ISD hosts two Special Olympics events each year for area athletes, Basketball Skills and Track & Field, funded primarily through donations and community partnerships. School PTOs served as Gold Sponsors for the 2025–2026 season.
