Carter BloodCare opens a larger Rockwall Donor Center at 2951 Ridge Road, Suite 107, on Monday, Aug. 10.

The nonprofit blood center outgrew its previous 2,300-square-foot space at 1307 Ridge Road, according to a press release from Carter BloodCare. The new location brings the center to 3,000 square feet, giving staff more room to collect blood, platelets and plasma.

The move comes during a national blood shortage crisis, only the second time such a shortage has been declared, according to KLTV. Carter BloodCare said it has an immediate need for all blood types, especially O negative and O positive.

Demand is climbing. The organization needs 1,600 donors daily across its service area to keep pace, Carter BloodCare directors have said. COO B.J. Smith framed the growth strategy in a Dec. 23, 2025, news release announcing the nonprofit's merger with Texoma Regional Blood Center: "As our North Texas region becomes home to one of the fastest growing populations in the United States, we also must grow to meet increasing health needs of our communities."

The nonprofit operates 27 donor centers and runs 25 to 30 mobile blood drives daily across 59 Texas counties.

How to donate

The new Rockwall center is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is closed Sunday.

Donors must be at least 16 years old (parental consent required) or 17 and older without consent. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds and feel well on the day of their visit. Walk-ins are welcome, or residents can schedule an appointment at CarterBloodCare.org.
