Top fundraisers at Cain Middle School's Pack the Pantry drive will get to smash a pie into a Rockwall-Heath football player's face.
The Rockwall ISD school launched the campaign to help Rockwall-Heath extend its winning streak in the annual Helping Hands food drive, a competition tied to the I-30 Classic rivalry football game between Rockwall High School and Rockwall-Heath High School. The drive benefits Rockwall County Helping Hands, which operates a food pantry, health center and thrift store at 950 Williams St.
For the 2026 drive, Helping Hands is asking for monetary donations rather than physical food items, according to the school's announcement. The money will go toward purchasing food for local families.
Two incentives are driving the competition at Cain. The top-fundraising 8th-period class wins a donut party. The three students who individually raise the most earn the pie-throwing honors with a Hawks football player.
The school's announcement describes Rockwall-Heath's streak as 16 consecutive wins in the food drive competition. A November 2025 report on the previous year's results called it the 14th straight year, which would put 2026 at 15. The exact count could not be independently confirmed.
The rivalry has produced growing results. In the 2025 drive, students and staff from both high schools and their feeder campuses collected a combined 69,780 pounds of food. Heath led with 46,160 pounds. That total marked a jump from 63,378 pounds combined in 2024 and 50,483 pounds in 2023, according to prior reporting.
Tarren Oswald, director of assistance and referral at Rockwall County Helping Hands, called the I-30 Classic drive "by far the largest food drive in the community" in September 2023, saying it stocks the pantry "with staples through the year until close to next summer."
The pantry's storage capacity grew in November 2025, when a North Texas Food Bank grant funded a new walk-in freezer at the Helping Hands facility. Jon Bailey, president and CEO of Helping Hands, said at the time that the freezer allows the organization to store more perishable goods, including meat, dairy and fresh produce.
Cain's announcement did not list a donation deadline. Donation details are available through Cain Middle School or at rockwallhelpinghands.com.
