Rep. Katrina Pierson, a Rockwall Republican, is seeking reelection to Texas House District 33 in the Nov. 3, 2026, general election. She faces Democrat Orlando Lopez, according to the Texas secretary of state’s certified candidate list.

Pierson said in the Rockwall Herald’s candidate questionnaire that she is running “to continue delivering results-driven leadership for House District 33.” She said the district “is growing rapidly, and that growth is placing real pressure on property taxpayers, roads, water, schools and public safety.”

Candidate information

Party: Republican

Education: Pierson said she “earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Texas at Dallas.” Her official House biography also lists the degree.

Family: “I was born in Wichita, Kansas, and raised in Forney, Texas, by a young single mother,” Pierson said. “We did not have much, but those early experiences taught me perseverance, personal responsibility and the value of hard work. I am the proud mother of one adult son. Rockwall is home, and I am honored to represent the community and the North Texas region that shaped my life.”

Occupation: “I am the CEO of a communications firm and serve as state representative for House District 33,” Pierson said. “After earning my biology degree, I built a career in the health care sector before moving into communications, public affairs and public policy consulting.”

Her official House biography lists her previous roles as national spokeswoman for Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, senior adviser for his 2020 campaign and visiting fellow at the Heritage Foundation in 2021.

On the issues

Property taxes: Asked whether she supports proposals to eliminate school district property taxes, Pierson said: “Yes. My goal is to phase out property taxes responsibly so Texans can truly own their homes. … School district maintenance and operations taxes are a major component of the property-tax burden, and Texas should continue using tax-rate compression, future revenue growth and available budget surpluses to buy those rates down over time.”

School funding: “The current school-finance system is overly complex and does not always keep pace with the realities facing fast-growing districts,” Pierson said. “In 2025, I co-authored HB 2, which made historic investments in public education, including teacher compensation, special education and school safety.”

The official legislative history for HB 2 lists Pierson as a coauthor.

She added that the state should “simplify the formula, ensure funding responds to student growth, prioritize dollars that reach teachers and classrooms, and give parents and taxpayers clear transparency about how education dollars are spent.”

Infrastructure: Pierson said “transportation dollars should follow population growth, with attention to congestion and capacity on Interstate 30, State Highway 205 and State Highway 78.”

On water, she said the state should put “additional long-term water funding approved by Texas voters to work expanding supply, developing reservoirs, reuse and desalination where appropriate.”

Women’s health: Asked what bill she would file, Pierson said her priority “will be advancing cost savings healthcare legislation through my Texas Women's Health Initiative.” She said the effort examines “gaps in prevention, early detection and treatment, particularly in maternal health, hormone health and menopause.”

Pierson’s responses were collected through a Rockwall Herald candidate questionnaire. Answers have been excerpted for length, with quoted wording preserved. Biographical claims and policy assessments are attributed to the candidate unless otherwise noted.
