Rockwall families can pick up free fresh produce and groceries starting Tuesday, Oct. 20, when Catholic Charities Dallas brings its Mobile Community Pantry to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
The drive-through distribution, run in partnership with the North Texas Food Bank, takes place at the church, 1305 Damascus Rd., according to Blue Ribbon News. The pantry offers fresh fruits, vegetables and other food items at no cost. Eligible families do not need to bring documentation, according to Catholic Charities Dallas.
How it works
All distributions begin at 9 a.m. The pantry is drive-through only, and residents should arrive with an empty trunk.
Anyone unable to attend can send a family member, friend or neighbor to pick up food on their behalf. People picking up for another household should bring the recipient's name, contact information, address, date of birth and household size.
The North Texas Food Bank, which serves 12 counties including Rockwall County, reported nearly 796,500 people across its service area are food insecure, according to the Royse City Herald-Banner. More than one-third of those experiencing hunger are children.
"Different regions, whether it's a rural or an urban area, have different issues. But overall, food insecurity has gone up," North Texas Food Bank President and CEO Trisha Cunningham told the Fort Worth Report in July.
