Rockwall County voters who registered or updated their information through the Texas Department of Public Safety’s online portal should check their registration status following a statewide processing error.

Votebeat and the Texas Tribune first reported Sept. 22 that applications and updates submitted through DPS had failed to reach county election officials. Some records dated to October 2025.

The backlog included new applications, address changes and duplicate records.

Software update caused missing information

In an Oct. 1 follow-up, Votebeat and the Tribune reported that state officials attributed the problem to an October 2025 software update by a DPS vendor.

DPS said the update omitted three data fields from daily files sent to the secretary of state’s office. The agency said it identified the issue in late August and resolved it Sept. 13.

County election offices then received the delayed records for review and processing ahead of the Nov. 3 election.

Check registration before voting

Residents can check their status through the Texas secretary of state’s voter lookup portal or contact the Rockwall County Elections Office at 972-204-6200.

According to state officials quoted by Votebeat, eligible voters who registered through DPS by the Oct. 5 deadline but remain missing from the rolls can cast a provisional ballot. Election officials can verify the DPS transaction and determine whether the ballot qualifies to be counted.

Under Texas voter ID rules, voters should bring an approved photo ID. Those who cannot reasonably obtain one may present qualifying supporting identification and complete a Reasonable Impediment Declaration.

The Rockwall County Elections Department lists early voting from Oct. 19 through Oct. 30. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Residents should consult the county website for current polling locations and hours.
